Over the years I’ve noticed that I’m not really in the new year mode until the 20th(ish) of January.
Energetically, I’m hearing and reading that others feel this too.
What about you?
Up until this week, I’ve been letting 2023 slowly dissolve away, while allowing the pigment of 2024 to rise. The tension between those two has been potent though.
On the one hand, this is a time in my life where a lot of my dreams and amazing things are happening, perhaps things I’ve been calling and simmering into my life for many years prior.
But on the flip side, there’s a bit of a standstill. A pausing of sorts. And a reimagining of my identity.
Instead of trying to avoid this tension or only focusing on “the year in review of 2023” or immediately starting to set new goals for 2024, I’ve been thinking about:
Quiet success
Quiet & calm success
Quiet & comforting success
Similar to quiet luxury — a discerning elegance without overt displays of wealth — quiet success happens over time, slowly dripping into your life.
It’s a slow restoration of your nervous system. Slowly building up to a new baseline.
We wouldn’t necessarily plant seeds in a garden and immediately announce to everyone “Look at my beautiful garden!” Right? It’s slow tend. It takes time.
And yet, it’s the opposite of what our digital age demands of us.
For us to immediately flash our successes, to immediately feel and show the benefit of 1 meditation, 1 week at the gym, or 1 Year in Review.
And so what’s the part of you that can discern between quiet success, loud success, and flashy success?
It’s the same part of you that notices how many thoughts you have while you’re meditating.
Contrary to what many people think about having thoughts during meditation (i.e. they don’t know how to meditate, they’re bad at meditating, they have too many thoughts during meditation) — it is the Source of Awareness that notices thoughts. It is your Awakened Intellect.
Because without that awareness of your thoughts, they continue to be unconscious. Uncomfortably lurking in how we behave.
You’re actually strengthening your Wise Inner Observer when you notice a thought.
And in that moment, it is your choice to keep thinking, maybe write it down, but then go back to your meditation practice.
Speaking of writing it down, I recently created my first physical journal that you can now purchase, “Meditation on Paper”!
The intention of “Meditation on Paper” is to write down your thoughts in those moments when sitting still feels too daunting, too overwhelming, and Awareness wants to speak through you. On paper.
Journaling aside, I hope this transition from 2023 to 2024 is like a closed bud slowly unfolding into a flower. In its own time.
As one of my teachers says, “Nature Knows Best How to Organize.”
For the past few months, we’ve been exploring mini-lessons on the four parts of our inner world.
We’ve learned about how emotions unfold, and where our unconscious behavior and memories get stored leading to triggers.
Today’s mini-lesson explores how to navigate challenging situations and relationships with the support of your inner wisdom/wise inner observer/awakened intellect. Scroll down for the mini-lesson and meditation.

Lesson 3: Cultivating Buddhi: The Wise Inner Knowing
What part of our mind helps us make logical decisions or supports us in becoming more aware? In this class, we will delve into the definition and profound significance of Buddhi, understanding its pivotal role in our awareness and decision-making processes. We will also learn how to navigate challenging situations and relationships with the support of Buddhi. By delving into how Buddhi integrates past experiences, you will uncover valuable insights that enable you to make more conscious choices and communicate with clarity in your present life.
Practice Meditation: Cultivating Clarity and Inner Wisdom
In this guided meditation, we will focus on nurturing the awakened intellect through mantra meditation and the art of observation. In Vedic meditation, we embrace the natural flow of thoughts, recognizing that they carry valuable insights and processes. Observing your thoughts is a significant aspect of your inner wisdom, known as Buddhi. Remember, your Awakened Intellect is a valuable resource guiding you toward greater clarity and purpose on your path.
